Paper meets coal
In the heart of the Lusatia area, everything has focused on coal and power up till now. Here, the common greeting is "Glueck auf" (Luck’s upwards) and the football club is called "Energie". We’re talking about Spremberg / Black Pump. That’s between Cottbus and Dresden.
Where once brown coal was burned, the Austrian W. Hamburger GmbH built a new paper factory. On the site of the old Black Pump gas combine, the new Hamburger-Spremberg GmbH & Co. KG paper factory was built. It was a piece of change in structure. 375 new jobs were created directly and that many again in the area.
170 million euro were invested in the Greenfield Project. Start-up began in late 2004. Paper production has been running since early April 2005. The paper machine in optimum condition has a capacity of 330,000 tonnes of raw paper to produce corrugated cardboard. That’s white liner board made of 100% recycled paper.
